LBAR announces REALTOR of the Year, Good Neighbor Award

            On Friday, January 16, the Lexington-Bluegrass Association of REALTORS® (LBAR) announced Melissa Poynter as the 2008 REALTOR® of the Year, Billy Smith as the 2008 Commercial REALTOR® of the Year and Gerry Whalen as the 2008 Good Neighbor Award recipient.

            Poynter, owner of Poynter REALTORS®, has been active in the real estate industry for more than 30 years and has been instrumental in LBAR’s community education program. Over the past year, the LBAR has donated a set of 10 books to 99 public and private elementary schools, developed an online interactive financial literacy tool and will soon launch a financial literacy program in which REALTORS® teach students about the many facets of personal economics.

            Smith, a REALTOR® with Gibson Company, has been serving clients for more than 25 years in the commercial real estate sector. He is one of the founding members of the LBAR Commercial Investment Council, has served on the board of LBAR and specializes in commercial sales, leasing and property management.

            Whalen, a broker with Whalen & Company, has been a REALTOR® for more than 30 years. She has been a foster parent since 1978 and offers support for all adoptive families in the rural Bluegrass. Her advocacy work in this area includes helping adoptive parents navigate school systems, helping children with behavior needs as well as donating money to this important issue.
