REALTORS® play an important leadership role in building our communities, sharing their time and talents to help others in need. Ten such individuals, including Lexington’s own Janice Mueller, were recognized today by the National Association of REALTORS® as finalists for REALTOR® Magazine’s 2010 Good Neighbor Awards.

Mueller has been a member of LBAR for 35 years, and in September 2001 helped found the Makenna Foundation in memory of Makenna David who died of a rare lung disease in 1998. The goal of the Foundation is to raise funds to help make the Kentucky Children’s Hospital a benchmark of children’s hospitals by providing the necessary equipment and assist in hospital expansion. Since 2001, the Foundation has raised over $1.2 million for the Kentucky Children’s Hospital. The principal broker of RE/MAX Creative, she served as LBAR President in 1990 and 2001. The Good Neighbor Award honors the ongoing volunteer efforts of REALTORS® who are making exceptional contributions to improve the quality of life in communities close to home and around the world.

“REALTORS® build communities and understand the importance of helping others,” said NAR President Vicki Cox Golder, a REALTOR®  and owner of Vicki L. Cox & Associates, Tucson, Ariz. “Many organizations are struggling today to do more with fewer resources, which makes the work of volunteers so much more important. The Good Neighbor Award finalists deserve to be recognized for the time, energy and ideas they bring to their community organizations.”
