Four LBAR members participated in the Bluegrass Regional Public Policy Group’s annual Washington DC Fly-In July 8-9, 2009. Participants included LBAR President Gale Fulton, LBAR Economic and Development Strategies Chair Becky Murphy and LBAR’s Government Affairs Director. Mayor Connie Lawson represented the city of Richmond – she is also a LBAR LEADS Committee member.

The Bluegrass Region conducts an annual Washington, D.C. Fly-In during which nearly 60 business leaders, community representatives and elected officials join in Washington for two intense days of lobbying and working with Kentucky's Congressional Delegation and staffs. The annual fly-in event began in 2005 and LBAR has participated since 2006.

During the visit, participants heard from and interacted with all six Kentucky Congressmen and both Senators Mitch McConnell and Jim Bunning over a two-day period. From the private sector, the group heard from Jed Smith who is the Managing Director, Quantitative Research with the National Association of Realtors®.

The D.C. Fly-In illustrates why our region coming together as one is a much stronger voice than all of us individually.
